AUSTIN - Representative Allen Fletcher recently signed on to a 9 bill legislative package by Representative Leo Berman (R-Tyler), consisting of five bills that would help address many of the state's issues to help curtail the illegal immigration problem we currently have in the state of Texas.
Representative Fletcher said: "Illegal Immigration is one of the biggest issues facing our state today. In the state of our economy, we can no longer afford people getting a free ride on the tax payer dollar."
The nine bill package consists of:
• House Bill 370 is legislation that would make English the official language of the state and would require all governmental acts be done in English.
• House Joint Resolution 32 is a constitution amendment that would make English the official language of the state.
• House Bill 253 is legislation which mandates a second language cannot be used as requirement for state employment in Texas.
• House Bill 256 is legislation that adds requirements to include information on citizenship status of parents to the Texas birth record. It further requires that the State not issue a certificate unless the child is a citizen as defined in the text and allows instead a record of alien birth.
• House Bill 260 is legislation that would prohibit illegal immigrants convicted of an offense from being given community supervision.
• House Bill 261 is legislation that would mandate that no state agency may adopt rules or policies that they will evade a certain state or federal law.
• House Bill 262 is legislation that compels schools to collect citizenship status of students and to document the use of bilingual programs and to analyze impacts of non citizen students on quality of education.
• House Bill 263 is legislation that charges a fee to from sending money to certain destinations outside the United States.
• House Bill 266 is legislation that helps prevent issuing identification to illegal aliens, to preclude the State from providing benefits to illegal aliens and allows workers to bring action against employers for displacing citizens in favor of illegal aliens.
"Collectively, these nine bills will help solve some of the state's immigration problems and are steps in correcting our illegal immigration crisis that we currently have in the state." Representative Fletcher said. "This is the best way the state can make sure people who entered this country illegally are not supported by our state government."
