Representative Allen Fletcher signed on to two important pro-Second Amendment bills filed in the Texas House of Representatives

AUSTIN -
Today Rep. Fletcher signed on to House Bill 1301, by Rep. Stephen Frost (D-Atlanta), which would allow employees to transport and store lawfully-owned firearms in their motor vehicles while parked at work. State law already allows firearms possession in private motor vehicles, but many corporate policies banning firearms extend beyond the physical workplace to include parking lots. "Hard-working Texans should not be forced to choose between protecting themselves during their commutes and keeping their jobs," said Fletcher. Similar laws have passed in both the neighboring states of Louisiana and Oklahoma.

Rep. Fletcher also signed on to House Bill 1893, by Rep. Joe Driver (R-Garland), which would allow Concealed Handgun Licensees to carry on the premises of postsecondary educational institutions in Texas. "Adult licensees should not be denied the right to protect themselves just because they live on, work on, or study on a college or university campus." In order to qualify for a CHL in Texas, you must be 21 years of age or older, pass a state and federal background check, and complete 10-15 hours of classroom training and shooting range instruction.

Both bills are strongly supported by the National Rifle Association and its state affiliate, the Texas State Rifle Association. "As a former law enforcement officer, Rep. Fletcher will lend key backing to these measures in the Texas House. We are proud to have his support," said Tara Reilly Mica, NRA-ILA Texas State Liaison.
